The U.S. Department of Commerce announced today in the Federal Register that U.S. importers of polyethylene retail carrier bags made in Thailand by Master Packaging Co. and King Pak Industrial Co. must pay antidumping duties of 123 percent of the customs value on imports entered into the United States. As a consequence, importers of these plastic grocery and shopping bags – who paid cash deposits of only 3 percent at the time of entry – will be liable for additional antidumping duties of 120 percent. According to information obtained from Commerce, Master Packaging and King Pak exported approximately $6.2 million of merchandise subject to the order during the period, leaving importers liable for over $7.5 million in antidumping duties.
This is one of the many reasons Nashville Wraps has been promoting US made polyethylene plastic bags. Keep in mind that these factories often do not have the ethics, polution controls or environmental concerns as US companies do. We do import some packaging but our emphasis is on domestic produced products where those products can be produced at home.
Buyers beware: We have noticed that many US distributors are turning to imports for packaging products which are easily available in the US, and not only plastic bags either. You can rest assured that this is not the strategy of Nashville Wraps. Our view is that we can deliver superior domestic made products from recycled and sustainable materials at an affordable price.
