\"BirminghamIt’s trade show season here at Nashville Wraps, and we are excited to share our\u00a0new collections in person. Our customer Susan Green, owner of Birmingham Bake & Cook Company, has been attending the Atlanta Gift Show<\/a> for years. \u00a0She says, “One of the things I love about the Nashville Wraps<\/a>‘ booth is that the displays and groupings give me such great tools visually to bring back to the shop. It\u2019s exciting! None of us can be creative in a vacuum \u2013 we need each other!”<\/p>\n

There\u00a0are so many reasons why attending trade shows is important. “They are critical for re-energizing not only our inventory and offerings, but ourselves,” explains Susan. “I get to talk to reps and other store owners. We talk about what works, what doesn\u2019t, what\u2019s hot and what\u2019s not. Because our shop is small, we must have a consistent influx of new and interesting products to show and be excited about! Also, I love meeting people at market that I have previously only talked to over the phone.”<\/p>\n

\"Birmingham<\/a><\/p>\n

From Professional Chef to Retailer Extraordinaire\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Susan got started in the restaurant industry at age 16 and never seriously thought of doing anything else. Graduating from\u00a0Tufts University near Boston in 1978, she managed her\u00a0first restaurant that following summer. A few years later, she\u00a0graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY.<\/p>\n

She moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 2008 after living in NYC for about a decade. She says, “The culinary scene in Birmingham\u00a0was already quite robust and has grown tremendously in more recent years, with no signs of slowing down! Opening a retail operation seemed to make sense after a well-rounded culinary career \u2013 a good use of my experiences in the front and back of the house as well as with merchandising, marketing and standards.”<\/p>\n

Kitchen Gadgets Galore!<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Her\u00a0merchandise is what she\u00a0refers to as \u201cfun and functional\u201d along with \u201cpractical and cool\u201d including sustainable cookware,\u00a0serveware, baking\u00a0and\u00a0decorating equipment, kitchen gadgets, barware, cutlery and even a\u00a0\u201cJust for Kids\u201d section.\u00a0Half of her\u00a0sales are for gifting items, especially hostess gifts. Fun and practical kitchen gadgets are the most popular, followed by bakeware and\u00a0textiles.<\/p>\n

Birmingham Bake & Cook publishes a weekly newsletter using\u00a0Constant Contact, along with Facebook promotions and local Chamber of Commerce events. They do lots of\u00a0off-site events\u00a0like garden club meetings, as well as in-store events like cooking workshops and\u00a0book signings to draw new customers. They have an in-house knife-sharpening service and a great\u00a0rewards program called the Red Bag Rewards Club.<\/p>\n

\"Birmingham<\/p>\n

Nobody Beats Nashville Wraps<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Her customers love\u00a0Nashville Wraps’ kraft paper shopping bags<\/a>. Susan says, “I can get just\u00a0what I need within 48 hours AND I can order online in my jammies (if I need to!). We get all of our packaging<\/a>, ribbon<\/a> and tissue<\/a> from Nashville Wraps.\u00a0For a\u00a0very brief time I ordered the bags locally, but\u00a0their bag prices delivered (not shipped) worked out to be the same as Nashville Wraps\u00a0bags including freight. Plus, I can always count on when they will arrive.\u00a0So, I switched back\u00a0to Nashville Wraps<\/a>!”<\/p>\n

Susan says she’s obsessed with taking great care of her\u00a0knives, but her\u00a0favorite kitchen tool \u2013 the one she\u00a0loves to hold in her\u00a0hand – is her\u00a0rolling pin. She\u00a0LOVES to bake fruit pies.<\/p>\n
