Raised in Brittany in western France, Guenievre Milliner is a self-proclaimed “foodie” who first\u00a0spent\u00a0over 15 years in the entertainment marketing business. She\u00a0later moved her family to Montreal, Canada where she worked for a fine foods wholesaler. But for the past few years, she was looking for a city in North America to open her own gourmet store.<\/p>\n
She and her husband love Nashville and realized on a recent visit how much the city has grown, attracting a\u00a0plethora of\u00a0great chefs and wonderful new restaurants. They spent 18 months researching the market, developing a business plan, finding the right location and lining up their suppliers.<\/p>\n
Located in the upscale Green Hills neighborhood of Nashville, Little Gourmand has turned into the store of their dreams. A “gourmand” in French is a person who takes great pleasure in food.\u00a0The store opened in November 2014 and offers mostly French products, but also sells items from Italy and Spain. Their goal is to offer carefully selected,\u00a0exclusive products.<\/p>\n

“I have personally selected each of our +300 references and I am proud of all of them,” explains Guenievre. \u201cWe are truly unique, 100% different from any other store in Nashville, as we only carry exclusive products, and a great customer relationship is key to a store like us!\u00a0We did very well during the holidays with the foie gras and the caviar. Our tapenades and pestos are very popular, including our wonderful truffle pesto that never stays very long on the shelves!”<\/p>\n

“On the sweet side, butter cookies and artisan jams are very popular. We carry very original jams like apricot and lavender, pear with dried apricots and honey, blood orange, sweet orange with orange blossom and a wonderful Provence black fig.” They also stock the beloved Kusmi Tea\u00a0brand from Paris.<\/p>\n
The reception to the new store has been enthusiastic.\u00a0Many locals who have traveled to France are delighted to find these French products now in Nashville. Their next step will be renting a professional kitchen very soon so they can also carry baked goods like specialty French cakes and quiches made by Guenievre.<\/p>\n
Now a Nashville Wraps customer, Guenievre\u00a0first saw our booth at the\u00a0Summer Fancy Food Show<\/a>\u00a0in New York last June. Amy Millslagle, owner of\u00a0The Frosted Affair\u00a0(one\u00a0of Little Gourmand’s neighbors) also told her\u00a0about our products. So she began getting her gift basket supplies<\/a> from Nashville Wraps.<\/p>\n Guenievre shares some tips for new business owners, \u201cYou have to remember it is a lot of work, and you never get a second chance to make a good first impression. Every customer entering your store is important, and you have to be on top your game each time. But the reward is when people fall in love with a product you have carefully tasted and selected yourself. Originally, the store let customers pick their own gift basket contents, but that became stressful on busy Saturdays. So now\u00a0every basket is custom-made and ready to purchase. They make sure they have all the supplies<\/a> ready like gift basket shed<\/a>, cello rolls<\/a> and raffia<\/a>. For regular gifts, they use natural kraft bags<\/a> with colored tissue paper<\/a> and raffia bows<\/a>.<\/p>\n
