They are the retail staple, the go-to lunch sack, the gifter’s delight, and the eco-friendly option. They are often under-appreciated but are an important piece to retail business.
THE HISTORY OF PAPER BAGS
Paper bags can be traced back to 1852, when American inventor, Francis Wolle invented and patented the first paper bag machine after he and his brother founded the Union Bag and Paper Company. Their paper plant, located in Savannah, GA employed nearly 500 people and became a local tourist attraction as people would visit to witness ‘1,000 feet of paper flying by per minute’.
In 1871, Margaret E. Knight, known as the ‘mother of the grocery bag’, took the invention even further when she invented the machine that would produce paper bags with flat boxy bottoms. In 1883, Charles Stillwell further developed the design by adding pleated sides to make it easier to fold, store, and carry. And in 1912, Walter Deubener added cord handles for reinforcement and ease of carrying, which is the final version of the paper bag (or shopping bag) widely used today.
WHAT TYPES OF BAGS ARE OFFERED AT NASHVILLE WRAPS?
To put it simply, A LOT! We are proud to offer a large variety of bags, for every occasion, at wholesale prices. In fact, we’ve created an entire Wholesale Bag Packaging Category to make it easy to shop them all in one location. We also offer Small Packs on most bags. That means you can try a new design, color, or size, without the commitment of a full carton. Here are a few of our most popular paper bags:
Custom printing is a popular option on the White Kraft bag because it allows colors to really pop! Available in a variety of sizes and cartons or small packs.
Nashville Wraps® has artists on staff who create our Exclusive Designs, which are updated seasonally. This means you can expect fresh, trending styles for holiday and every day, that you can only get at Nashville Wraps®.
Created from white kraft, these bags lend themselves to more vibrant colors. This line originated with the iconic Aqua bag and just this year we’ve added fun Barberrie Pink, popular Olive Green, and classic Greige Gray.
Available in white and kraft colors and a variety of sizes, these bags comply with FDA regulations for food packaging so they are not only great for small merchandise, but food too! (They may just be the perfect cookie-carrying bag! 😊 )
Don’t pigeonhole yourself to just coffee with these fun little bags! They can be used for the beans, but also dog treats, candy, pasta, cookies, or whatever else you can dream up. The tin-tie makes for easy sealing and they are available with and without the window.
HOW CAN YOU CELEBRATE PAPER BAG DAY?
While it may not be a day you go out of your way to celebrate, here are a few ways you could honor the significance of Paper Bag Day.
- MAKE THE SWITCH
By reducing the use of plastic bags, you’ll help promote sustainability and protect our natural resources.
- MIX IT UP
Our small packs make it easy to try out a new design for your business, crafts, or even school projects!
- RECYCLE AT HOME AND AT WORK
Depending on their original use, most bags can be used more than once. Storing them carefully allows you to reuse or even repurpose them. And if they are damaged, most can be used in composting.
